Southeast Missouri Hospital's
Regional Cancer Center:

World-Class Technology close to home

Southeast Missouri Hospital continues to invest in technologies, personnel and programs that make it possible for Southeast to provide oncology services that are unsurpassed in this region.

The clinical staff in Southeast’s Radiation Therapy Department includes a full-time in-house board certified radiation oncologist, as well a board certified Ph.D. medical physicist, a board eligible physicist, and a board certified medical dosimetrist. No other hospital in southeast Missouri has a full-time board certified physicist and a full-time board certified dosimetrist on staff.

Southeast Missouri Hospital's Regional Cancer Center

Many of the diagnostic and therapeutic technologies housed in Southeast’s Regional Cancer Center are equal or superior to the equivalent technologies available at many of the nation’s best-known cancer treatment facilities.

Those technologies include:

  • One of the few Novalis® Shaped Beam Surgery™ systems in the world (and the first in Missouri);
  • A large-bore 16 slice Phillips CT Simulator for precise tumor targeting;
  • A Varian Clinac 21EX linear accelerator, equipped to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), the same technology found at internationally-known cancer centers including M.D. Anderson, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Johns Hopkins, Stanford and the Mayo Clinic; and
  • The daVinci® Surgical System for robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy procedures, only the third such system in Missouri.

The Cancer Program at Southeast Missouri Hospital was surveyed by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer in May 2005.

Our program received approval with commendation as a result of this survey. This accomplishment reflects the signficiant professionalism and dedication provided by the entire staff of Southeast and the Regional Cancer Center in providing the best cancer treatment available to our patients.

In addition, Southeast Missouri Hospital is one of 1,400 nationally that meet the guidelines and reporting standards established by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (CoC).
