Southeast is proud of its Oncology Certified Nurses

An Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) has passed a rigorous nationally recognized exam. This exam is a validation that each of the OCN nurses has the experience and specialized knowledge to expertly care for oncology patients and their families. Oncology patients have complex multifaceted chronic diseases which require specialty nursing interventions across their health and illness continuum. Specialty nursing starts with the initial diagnosis and continues through the patient’s treatment and follow-ups. Having Oncology Certified Nurses at Southeast Missouri Hospital ensures that the highest quality of care is given to patients and their families.

Inpatient Cancer Services

Southeast’s dedicated 10-bed Oncology Unit and its specially trained nursing staff, many of whom are oncology certified nurses, is designed to meet the many needs of cancer patients and their families and fosters an open, supportive environment. The newly-remodeled unit is designed for the comfort of family members as well as patients. Because family support is so crucial to cancer patients, the unit visiting policy encourages both adults and children to visit.
