Research and Prevention

CCOP

Since 1990, the Regional Cancer Center has been affiliated with the St. Louis/Cape Girardeau Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). Through participation in CCOP, the advantages of the most current treatment and cancer control research studies being conducted through the National Cancer Institute, SWOG and NSABP, are brought directly to the community. In April 2006, Terri Stuckey, BSN, RN, attended SWOG training in Salt Lake City, Utah as Southeast’s primary research nurse.

Numerous patients from this area have entered into treatment trials for a wide range of cancer diagnoses as well as prevention trials on breast and prostate cancer. For information about clinical trial enrollment criteria, call (573) 651-5550.

Prostate Screening

Creating an awareness of prostate cancer and the importance for early diagnosis is the focus of a free Prostate Screening Clinic held in Cape Girardeau each fall. The clinic operates in cooperation with Urology Associates of Cape Girardeau. For more information about the clinic date, call the Regional Cancer Center at 651-5550.
