Hereditary Cancer Risk Assessment

Some cancers – breast, ovarian and colorectal, in particular – are hereditary due to a damaged gene passed from parent to child. At the Regional Cancer Center, individuals with a strong cancer history can receive a cancer risk assessment and counseling, education, and if appropriate, genetic testing at Southeast's Hereditary Cancer Risk Assessment Clinic. The Southeast Guest House

As a special service, Southeast maintains a Guest House adjacent to the Hospital campus. The Guest House has sleeping rooms, a living area with a television set, a selection of reading materials and games and a kitchen where snacks and light meals may be prepared. Lymphedema Therapy

Available at HealthPoint Outpatient Rehabilitation located at HealthPoint Plaza, 2126 Independence, is lymphedema therapy. Secondary lymphedema is common among women who have undergone treatment for breast cancer. HealthPoint Rehab offers Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy (CDP), the most effective treatment in the management of lymphedema. CDP is a non-invasive treatment designed to decrease and maintain the reduction of swelling. Treatment is administered by a Manual Lymph Drainage Certified Therapist. ACS Day

Cancer patients and their families may learn of the many resources available through the American Cancer Society at ACS Day, a partnership between Southeast Missouri Hospital and the American Cancer Society. On various days of the month from, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., ACS representatives are available at the Regional Cancer Center in Radiation Therapy and Infusion Services to provide information about ACS resources. Appointments are not necessary. For a schedule of dates, call (573) 651-5550.

• Free wigs and turbans
• Free nutritional supplements
• Mileage reimbursement
• Free air transportation if traveling for treatment
• “Look Good...Feel Better” self-help program
• Patient information
• Information for caregivers

Social Services

Southeast’s Social Services staff is available to assist patients and families with social support services as well as with financial issues, Advance Directives and guidance on the availability of community resources. Social Services can be reached at (573) 651-5549.

Pastoral Care

Southeast’s Pastoral Care Department is available 24 hours a day to minister to the spiritual needs of patients and their families.

The staff is also available for consultation on issues such as Living Wills and Advance Directives. The Hospital Chapel, located on the first floor of the Hospital near the Surgical Waiting Room, is open around the clock.

All faiths are welcome to visit the Chapel for reflection, prayer and spiritual renewal.
